Solution For The Back End Of Wine Custom Packaging Line

Apr 07, 2021

Chandon's history can be traced back to a few years ago, when Moet & Chandon began producing high-end sparkling wines overseas in France. In the late 1950s, Robert Jean de vogue, the founder of Chandon, visited overseas wine producers for the first time to discuss cooperation with them and successfully applied his expertise and experience in the field of champagne to the production of overseas sparkling wine. In the mid-1980s, a team of Chandon experts discovered an excellent new site, an old dairy farm, in the Yarra Valley, Victoria, Australia. The local climate is cool and the land is fertile, making it an ideal place for Domaine Chandon Australia to produce method TRADITIONNELLE sparkling wine.

Maintain a leading position in Australian sparkling wine market

In Australia, sparkling wine currently accounts for 6.9% of the total wine and cider market share, which is expected to grow further in the next five years. This good growth trend has a lot to do with the increasing preference of local consumers for high-end refined drinks such as French champagne. Starting from 2014, more and more grape lovers began to change their consumption habits, switching from low-end wine to high-end wine. High end wine is also increasing at an average annual rate of 5%, and the sales volume from 2018 to 2019 has reached 6.9 billion US dollars

The forecast shows that many new companies will enter this segment market. In order to maintain the market competitiveness, large manufacturers in the industry need to step by step to realize the automation of production procedures. (IBISWorld Industry Report "wine production in Australia", 2019 (Australian wine production in 2019))] Domaine Chandon's cooperation project with Sidel is based on this consideration, with a view to creating a more automated, safe and efficient solution.

Sidel has deep professional accumulation in wine and spirits production line equipment integration

A few years ago, Sidel and DCA began to cooperate on this project. Initially, Sidel proposed a number of equipment layout concepts based on the available plant space, packaging design specifications and Domaine Chandon's technical requirements for the equipment. At that time, the wrapping technology was not widely used in the industry, but the Australian producer of sparkling wine soon realized that there were many advantages to using wrapping cartons compared with the common RSC. "DCA is a real leader in the industry, and it's a great challenge to use this kind of carton and integrate the partition inserter module in the same equipment, and we are very honored to be part of it," said Julien claudin, manager of Sidel Australia For new equipment, DCA hopes to cooperate with exclusive suppliers, who can provide end-to-end solutions to make each stage of the production process highly efficient

Cermex wb46 packing machine is an ideal packing solution for high-end products. The device is suitable for different packaging bottles, no matter what design or label type, can be handled very smoothly. The contact position between the equipment parts and products is specially designed to ensure the good condition of the products and avoid scratches. Whether it is the limited edition bottle with nested label process or the conventional Domaine Chandon bottle with paper label, it can be effectively handled. The carefully designed grab head can grab six bottles at a time and transport them to the automatic partition inserter module in the packing machine. Julien added: "we have devoted time to validate this technical concept proposal to ensure that the packaging bottles are handled in a meticulous manner to minimize the damage to the bottle cap, label and sleeve label parts." After the combined products are transported to the surrounding paperboard blank, the paperboard blank will completely wrap the bottle body, forming a solid square box, so as to provide guarantee for the subsequent proper stacking and downstream logistics operation.

Chris Fraser, head of production at Domaine Chandon, said: "our cartons are perfect. This means that the impact of product transportation on product quality can be effectively reduced. " DCA's Richard added: "previously, there was a packing machine in the factory, but it required a lot of manual handling operations: for example, we need to insert the carton partition by hand, we need manual stacking, and then we can use forklift to carry it to the film wrapping machine for packaging." After the introduction of cermex wb46, cartons can be marked and transported to the Sidel palletizer to realize automatic palletizing. Palaccess is also a set of fully automatic equipment, which can be changed without tools, without replacing parts or manual adjustment. In the future production, the operator can design, simulate and load the new palletizing mode by using the built-in paldesigner software of HMI, without more programming operation and special intervention service from suppliers. In addition, through the interface of the new operation panel, you can also access the technical documents of the machine, click on the course / one stop course (OPL) program list and special videos to help troubleshooting. Richard concluded: "throughout the process, Sidel's team participated actively to help us analyze many difficulties in the project, especially how to insert the partition board into the carton automatically."

Sidel expands local markets in Australia and New Zealand

Richard emphasized: "during the project, our initial concern was to work with a supplier in the European market. They may not be as awesome as the support of local suppliers. But now it seems that we are very happy to see that Sidel can organically combine its comprehensive business strength covering the world with its localization advantage close to customers; it is very important that they are committed to developing business in our region. " Julien added: "at the moment, Sidel is actively expanding into the Australian and New Zealand markets. For us, establishing a partnership with Chandon will be very helpful for us to further expand the Australian market and further consolidate our long-standing heritage in the wine and spirits segment. "

The back-end system of this new production line has been running successfully for more than a year, and domainechandon has seen the huge returns brought by the equipment: the bubbling wine manufacturer has successfully completed the production target, met the growing business demand, and greatly improved the production efficiency.
